We had been here before, just the three of us, but had not be able to go into the visitor's center which closed at 4:00 pm. We started at 3:00 this time and were able to watch the excellent film about the battle fought here during the Civil War and see some of the tools used and learn about the people and conditions at the time. There is so much to learn-----

Diagram of what the soldier might have been dressed like and wearing
In the film, they talked about the difficulty of marching through the thick tangle of weeds and trees in this dense forest. The battle took place in March so there was also snow and frozen conditions to deal with.
When we came in May/June, I took pictures at this same spot. I think it looks amazing in the colors of the late fall.....
And we still love these fences with no posts.....
This time we saw lots of deer throughout our drive in the park and they were very use to cars as they barely moved as we approached them.
How well they blend into the late winter colors as well...
I do not like war.....PERIOD!!! And walking on this land reminded me of that over and over again. We should not battle our neighbors or have enemies to fight. On both sides of this battle there were people who believed in THEIR side of the fight...and many who were fighting only because they felt or were compelled to fight by their leaders.
It will be an amazing day when there is no more war on this earth and there will be peace on earth for 1000 years. Let it be soon!
