On The Road To Amarillo.....

or maybe the title should be "Is This The Way To Amarillo?" after the pop song of the 1970s.  However, we have made this journey many times and pretty much know the way...to Amarillo! So off we went---

The hills in Spanish Fork Canyon were just changing into some reds and yellows along the way.

We stopped at the Hole in the Rock Rest Area.  I don't think that we have ever stopped there and I got a bit carried away taking pictures.  I loved the contrast of the stone, trees, and the light.

A brief "commercial" by Gary--
Where is Grandpa now, grandkids?

The folded stone is so striking here as in many places throughout southern Utah.
Some wild daisies growing despite the hard ground and lack of water this year.

The shapes are varied and curious...
And then there were clouds........
These were all taken in southern Utah heading between Moab and Monticello.

We spent the night in a hotel in Tucumcari...of course, I traveled with my pillow and BYU blanket.
Selfie time
During the drive on Wednesday morning, our car hit 80,000--a historical moment to record!
Welcome to the plains of the panhandle of Texas--we had some rain off and on during our drive into Amarillo.
We rented a home to stay in Amarillo near by the Church and funeral home we were working with.
Classic Amarillo Print--more on that later----
It said there were four bedrooms which was great, but one was actually a sun room with a bed...and no blinds.  Scott "took one for the team" and slept in there.
Selfie--Tosha and Scott arrived that afternoon and then Jessica got in that night.
Nice to have them with us although it was odd (but also nice) not to have the grandkids around.  It was a different kind of nice.

My siblings and nieces and nephews were all arriving at different times and staying in different places so there were lots of texting going back and forth to make sure everyone arrived safely.  Some didn't arrive until the early hours of Thursday.

Gary and I had to head to the funeral home for the last minute details.  Otherwise our evening was free so we decided to find some Texas BBQ using that important tool-Google maps......
