Temple Square Construction Continues

As part of the Salt Lake Temple remodeling and earthquake proofing, most of the grounds are being redone as well.  As part of that, the walkway from North Temple to South Temple along the sides of the Relief Society Building and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building is now closed.  That means to travel from the Church History Library to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building is now a much more complex journey.  You either travel around the block to the east or the west or you travel down through the tunnels and parking lots.  Not very convenient and requires planning to make in between them for meetings.

Just some signs of construction--
Flowers blooming in beds not yet removed---

When you take the tunnel route, you can still come up the "roundhouse" which is an elevator/stairwell access from the parking garages below to the ground floor.  That is only open for a few more weeks and then we will have to take the tunnels completely to the Church History Library--a longer jaunt.
Looking back to the south to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  For those of you familiar with the area, the reflecting pond and all of the water features are being redone on Temple Square.  There were some leaks that needed to be repaired and also the goal of making more places for people to gather for photos and wedding groups.
Despite the cranes, fences, signs, detours, and dust, signs of spring are everywhere in the gardens that are still in place.

This is a view of the south side of the temple--

You have to walk BEYOND the block because many sections of the sideway are closed due to the construction.

In addition to all of this construction or maybe because of it, the intersection at State Street and North Temple is restricted and also the end of our street on 1st Ave is closed from getting on to State Street.  That has made travel a bit crazy for us by car but we are adapting.

I think I mentioned this before, but what a historic time to be serving on the Temple Square campus.
