The Blood Draw---

Or as I think of it---way beyond the call of duty!

Jena had a physical for Camp K and the doctor decided to do some blood tests.  Jena is very difficult to get blood from because her veins are very tiny and she gets very tense about the whole experience.  For years, only the PA, Carl,  at the office could really take her blood when needed.  However he wasn't there on Friday so the lab tech had to do it.  It has been a long time since Jena had a blood draw and I hadn't prepare her at all so she was very nervous.  She wouldn't hold still and kept getting very tense and a little bit upset.  I was ready to call it a day and try again later, but the lab tech had a different idea.

She offered to Jena to let her (Jena) take blood from her arm.  I couldn't believe it when Jena said that she wanted to do that.  The tech got everything ready, Jena got the gloves on, and with instructions and only a tiny bit of help, she poked the lab tech and drew a tube of blood--with the normal size needle.  I couldn't believe that Jena actually did that---poked someone in the arm with a needle.  (I was also concerned that after all of this, Jena would still not be willing to have her own blood draw.  Seemed like a big gamble on the part of the tech.)  To my surprise, Jena was totally calm and willing to have her blood taking and did great.  The tech showed her that she would use a much smaller needle for Jena than what Jena had used on her arm and things went smoothly from there.

Luckily the rest of the day went great for Jena.  She went to Teenastics at Gigi's Playhouse in the evening and got dance instructions for the dancers at Layton High School....
Kayla, Jena, and Charlee
..which happened to include two friends who were peer tutors back at Legacy Junior High.  That made it even better.
