Allan's Funeral and Burial

We held the funeral at the Syracuse Lindquist Mortuary on Friday, November 4 at 11:000 am.

Allan was not a fan of flowers so we decided to go with a more woodsy look for the casket spray.  On Wednesday afternoon as we were planning, I sent a text to Charon and Vonette and asked if one of them could help us with a fish.  Within a few hours, Gary Kerr had made this one.  Charon chipped in a fishing rod.  It turned out just the way we wanted it.  Heidi, his daughter from Oregon, loved it and indicated that this type of  flowers are in her yard in Oregon and it made her so happy to see them as part of this arrangement.

The funeral video display--happened to capture a kissing one with Valerie---
Allan LOVED diet coke so of course, we provided some for those who came.  He often had a large very large Maverick drink container filled with Diet Coke.

Charon and Vonette did a great job setting up a display of important things related to Allan and also to Valerie.
As mentioned, Allan did not like flowers, but we saw this in the funeral "book" and knew it was perfect for the family to remember Allan.  One year, he built a wooden heart for Valerie on Valentine's Day.  And every year after that he put it out in his yard.
The ribbon said "My Petunia" which is what he called Valerie

You can see why we had to get the heart shaped arrangements--to honor their sweet love for each other. He knew we did it for Valerie, who would have loved it!

Allan had been in decline for many years and had to deal with complex health challenges most of his life.  He was lost without his beloved wife who helped him with and through those challenges.  He fought the good fight and certainly deserves the healing release from his mortal body.  Hope there is time in heaven for fishing, Allan, 'Til we meet again!!!
