RC Willey's

If you are from northern Utah, you probably have heard of RC Willey's and maybe even bought some furniture there.  They have had a location in Syracuse since 1930's and grew it into a business
that "Warren Buffet would buy" (that is an title of a book about the history of the business.)  They were a major employer in the area for many years as the business grew and grew.  Most if not all of the furniture we have in our house that we didn't buy in Hong Kong came from there.  Syracuse was considered way out in the boonies then and much of their marketing was to encourage people to travel for good furniture deals.  The road their building was on was 2700 South in Syracuse, but called RC Willey's road by the old-time Syracuse people.

Well, times changed and they have built a huge store in Layton because it was too expensive to continue to maintain a building that has been remodeled and added on to so many times.  On October 19th as we were coming home from buying suits, Charon called about some business stuff and mentioned they were in the parking lot watching them tear down the building.  So after a brief discussion about our to-do list, we headed over there. It was quite amazing, both to watch the tear down but also the people.  This building is about 4 doors down from where Gary grew up and his parents' property is right next to the back part of the property.  Gary and Charon have lots of memories of the store and the people there.

The noise was crazy---and this operator was amazing to watch.  He even appeared to be sorting metal out of the mess of debris.

Right after this shot, the right doors popped as the backhoe was tearing the back supports.
This was the last shot I took from that day.  Now the entire building is torn down except for the front part you can see standing here.

As we drove home, I saw this beautiful scene in the sunset.  How cool is that!
Lots of changes in this little spot in Syracuse--both personal and city-wide!
