Memories

I belong to a facebook group called "You know your from the Tri-cities when...." (And I know that is the incorrect "your" but I didn't start the group and that is how it is spelled.)  Most of the time they talk about things which occurred after we moved from Richland in 1971.  But someone posted this picture of the swimming pool in Richland which started a flood of memories and sharing.  My brothers and I spend many summer days in this pool along with everyone else we knew.  It was usually filled up just like this picture shows.
I commented that I remember going to the pool and then walking to the Tastee Freez afterwards for a Brown Topper.  Lots of other people remembered that as well and someone posted this picture of the actual store.  I guess it is still there but called the "Bomber" (which is or at least was the high school mascot.)

I am so glad to have these pictures from these important places of my childhood.  I am so glad that we have memories--the good and the bad are both so important to us.  Everyone should have a swimming pool and ice cream shop from their childhoods.  I am sorry that many do not.

Richland is still the Bombers. There was a time in the 90's, if I remember right, that they were going through a politically correct phase and were trying to rewrite history to say that the Bomber name came from a plane (a bomber) that was sponsored by donations from Hanford area folks. But the real historians shut that down because the real story is the name came from when everyone found out they (at Hanford) had been instrumental in the atomic bomb program.
