A Solemn Assembly was held in the morning session to sustain Pres. Russell M. Nelson as the 17th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were at home but had the privilege to stand when the appropriate group was called and casted our sustaining vote. It was a sweet and sacred experience. We are so lucky to live in a time that we can join in these special moments and feel the spirit where ever we live throughout the world.
In addition, two new Apostles were sustained--Gerrit Gong and Ulissus Soares. It was an historic moment for the Church with the first Chinese-American and Latin Apostles. It seems that the age of China and the Church is fast approaching. Pres. Russell is a long-time friend of China, being highly regarded there as a heart surgeon. He did some surgery on a high ranking China official in the 1980s. Pres. Nelson learned Mandarin Chinese in the early 1980s in response to a statement made by Pres. Kimball. Although I don't know Elder Gong personally, many of our friends know him quite well as he served as the Area President in Hong Kong at some point after we left there.
Later in the evening, a major change was announced in Priesthood meeting which combined the High Priest and Elders Quorum in the wards. Another great change for the Church.
In the middle of those two sessions, Jena and I were able to attend the afternoon session of Conference,

We spend a little bit of time, having dinner at my dad's and then watching Priesthood session together. We were planning to do some family reunion stuff, but once we heard the announcement of the change as dad and Lance were watching, we headed over and watched the whole session. Exciting times ahead.
Time for one more day of General Conference and then the Easter celebrations will begin with the Hall extended family.
