Walnut Grove (Emergency Preparation) Neighborhood Adult Dutch Oven Dinner and Games

This year our ward is encouraging people to make a quarterly goal for emergency preparedness.  Each quarter we have a different focus area.  This first quarter was a focus on heat and cooking without power--check your blankets, fuel sources, etc.  Each of the quarters also includes an activity of some sort and the Dutch Oven dinner was the first one.

This is what it looks like when you are cooking for 75-100 people in the Church parking lot.

Jason Robbins and John Nelson with the help of Kevin Van Vleet and Byron Beck prepared
dinner in Dutch ovens for us---BBQ chicken, green beans, and funeral potatoes.
It was yummy.

People had the option of coming early and learning how to make
a dessert.  We made a Cherry Chocolate Dump Cake and Pineapple Upside Down cake/
We served them with ice cream the only thing other than the rolls which was
not prepared in Dutch ovens.
And of course we played games with an Emergency Preparation theme:  EP Charades (although there was some dispute if Sodom and Gomorrah counted as an emergency); EP Scattergories, and Telestrations (with our own words).  We also played the famous "Toothpick game" where we got to know our neighbors better (some maybe a little too well!).

It was a fun night and hopefully we understand a little bit more about cooking and caring for a Dutch Oven and also what we would have to do to feed a big group in a disaster.
