The Winter Games

Jena has been skiing at Snowbasin for the past 4 years in their adaptive ski program which has been so great.  This year we became part of the Northern Utah Ski Team for Special Olympics and Jena skied in her first event on March 15.

This required her to learn how to ski between poles both for the Slalom and the Giant Slalom.  In addition, she had to ski down the hill without a coach or anyone beside her.  She practiced for the month before but higher up on the hill so I had never seen her actually do it until the meet and Gary hadn't watched her ski all season.  We were both amazed with how fast she went and how great she did.  She got bronze in both meets and her friends got silver and gold.

After the competition, we headed to Weber State University where students there hosted a dinner, ceremony and dance.  Jena loved it. (Gary headed home and I read a book in the corner.  Jena doesn't need me to handle these social situations.)  She had a great time.  She danced for 2 straight hours after skiing all day.
