The asking...

I hope  the link will work for those who didn't see it on Facebook.  My post with it at that time:

"Life is full of happy moments and great people. Here is one of them."

Dreams come true.....  (click this for the link to the Instagram)
Nick surprised her by coming into her choir class and asking
her with a few of his friends, including Ryan Miggins, a good neighbor.

Nick had called us and given us a heads up the day before.  However I hadn't wondered any of Jena's teacher about it.  I had to pick up Jena for an dentist appointment.  The minute I walked in to functional skills class where she was waiting for me, the women aides starting drilling me.  First questions came fast: "Do you know this boy?"  "Is he good enough for Jena?...Do you know what happened today?  Jena had told them that she knew Nick since elementary school, but they wanted more details than that.  I convinced them it would be alright.  They love their students. (Her brothers and sisters also had questions about Nick as well!  So he had to pass several layers of vetting.

Nick is a junior as well.  He and Jena have been in school classes many times especially in elementary school.  He is also in our stake and his sister and grandma live in my neighborhood.  When needed he had been her protector and they have a special friendship.  I hear from his aunts and grandmother that he has talked about this for a long time that he wanted to take her to Prom when they were both in high school.  He is a great kid--student body junior class President and just elected Student Body President.  I was totally comfortable with him.  I was glad it was someone we knew rather than someone we had no connections with.

She answered officially the next night with a late night drop at his house:

Nick likes pizza and so does Jena so it seems
the perfect reply gift--I thought I was clever in asking for
a Y.  The store clerk said oh you mean for "Yes". we can do "Yes" and the
did a fun job with it.  I was a bit sad on two accounts--"yes" pizza must be fairly common and 2-
Why didn't they first think of "Y" for BYU.  I also wanted to said , No on the Yes
pizza because we wanted to BYU "Y".  But we did want a yes pizza and I don't think
Nick is a BYU fan...
The delivery is heading up the steps.

So the hunt began for a dress for 4'9"....our rush was a bit speeded up as Jena was also notified that she  nominated as Junior Class Prom Queen,  That meant she had to have a dress ready by the following Monday. Although that was a week notice there wasn't six full free days and nights for dress shopping.  She dropped on lots of dresses and we had fun but the only one she really liked wasn't in her size and couldn't arrive in time for the formal pictures.  One of helpful sale person suggested a place in Syracuse who rented dresses.  I didn't know if it would work because it would significant alterations.  Kerry at Once upon a Whimsy was awesome and lucky Jena found HER perfect dress.

on the day they took Royalty pictures
Going to prom was on Jena's "bucket list" although she calls them goals and mine are bucket list things.  Even her Young Women leaders knew that since she was much younger.  She was wearing a big smile around that week and actually even enjoyed trying on lots of dress.  And as you see she ended up with a "puffy" dress even though she had said no before the shopping was started.  The dress did happen to be her most favorite blue color in the world (and the same color as the walls in her rooms.
