Go East, Young Man!!

Actually the famous saying is go west, young man!  but we are heading east and south to Arkansas so off we went on Saturday morning, April 8.  Another road trip.  It is 1313 miles--about 20 hours of driving time.

We left around 9:00 am after a great breakfast at Vonette's.

The sky was so blue between the white clouds
and the white of the snow as we left Ogden Valley

We drove from Nordic Valley, Utah, to Burlington, Colorado on Saturday.
A view out our car window as we drove slowly through some construction near Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Jena is a great traveler and Gary knows just what to say to make her giggle.....
Water towers and windmills always deserve a photo taken---

Sunday, we attended Church in Burlington, Colorado, in this small Church.  We were greeted by six elders from the Kansas Wichita Mission.  The ward members asked us if we were going to "be their senior couple."  One fun thing was that one of the families included a foreign exchange student from Hong Kong.  Gary talked to her a bit in Cantonese, but mostly we talked about the places that we both loved and the food.  She said that she missed the food most of all.  Of all the places we could have attended Church, we were at the one with someone from Hong Kong in the middle of rural Colorado.

We headed to the nearest rest area to change into traveling clothes.

Later we stopped at another rest stop in Kansas and happened on this historical marker for the Mormon Battalion which camped nearby on their trek to San Diego.
A bridge over a small stream at the same rest area.
We traveled from Burlington, Colorado to Parsons, Kansas on Sunday.
A beautiful sunset for our Easter Sunday.

We missed the Missouri state sign on our trip down but got the Arkansas one.  We were getting close to Bentonville now.

Monday we drove the two plus hours from Parsons, Kansas to Bentonville, Arkansas.  It started to get real...we are going to live here for 18 months--no quick trips home to attend funerals or visit grandkids.  We are really "serving away" from our home now.  What a grand adventure that will be!
