On Thursday afternoon, we received the notice that we would be receiving a full-time sister missionary in the Go Forth Meeting the next morning. As we currently have six openings that would be happy to have a full-time missionary, that was good news. We had two positions that are high priority and after reviewing her short mission bio, we felt that she would probably take one of those.
And that was the plan until after the assignments were all made in the Go Forth meeting, but before the closing hymn and prayer. I leaned over to Gary and said "Or the ARC." He gave me a look because that was not even in the top four of our openings. We sang the hymn, had the prayer, and then headed back to the Relief Society Room to meet Sister Bruce and have some food. Gary took a moment to talk to President Parker about a couple of things and in that conversation it was confirmed to him that she belonged in the ARC. (That is the group of missionaries who meet with potential donors and review unsolicited donations for the library. They are also part of the US/Canada team.)
After we took her to the Church History Library and did our first trainings with her, we told her where she would be assigned. She said, did you know that I took donations as part of my job at the university? No, we didn't, but God knew. Several things she shared AFTER we told her the assignment confirmed again and again that this is where she is to serve.
When we completed our training and got her settled in her afternoon of Church History Library training, I headed home to have lunch with Jena. I don't know about you but sometimes saying the blessing over a meal can be a bit hurried and not much thought might be given. This time, when I started- "Heavenly Father..." I felt an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for the direction we had be given that morning. I couldn't even speak for several seconds. We hadn't paused yet to thank God for that direction but in that moment. I did pause and then gave thanks for that sweet knowing that comes from the Holy Ghost. Not the usual prayer for lunch but Jena goes with the flow and I did remember to bless the food and give thanks for it at the end of the blessing. We are so blessed to have daily revelation and direction in our lives.
