Institute--Latter-day Hymns

Everyone should teach a class on the Latter-day Hymns.  The people are interesting, the stories are inspiring and music--it is something unique in our lives.  We start each class with musical quotes--usually from LDS people but this one was posted by a friend on Facebook so I decided to use it.

It reminded me of our brother-in-law, Allan.  He suffered from frontal lobe dementia which is not an easy thing to deal with.  In the last year of his life, he could barely talk on some days.  But if we put the TV on the 60s and 70s radio station, he would start singing those beloved and familiar songs which he had loved from his teenager years.  Music was truly his last joy of life.  So fill your life with great music and it will be there when you need it most.

The people are all unique--

Evan Stephens....the first full-time director of the Tabernacle Choir

Father Fredrick Faber who loved congregational singing in a time when that was uncommon in England and wrote over 500 hymns.
Other quotes we have used---

And this week, we get to learn more about William Clayton who wrote the beloved hymn "Come Come Ye Saints."  He had ten wives and at least 42 children during the time that the Church practiced polygamy.
We spent one week just on hymns by Eliza R. Snow.  This is one of my favorite quotes of all time so I loved being able to share it with our students.  May your testimony of Jesus be a lamp that guides you through life.
We are so blessed by those with these amazing talents!
