According to google, they are : "A small, shiny, dark brown nut with a light tan patch that comes from the official state tree of Ohio, the buckeye tree." As you know, it is also the mascot for Ohio State--the Buckeyes!
They are also a delicious cookie/candy made even better if they are brought to your door on a Sunday evening by Sister and Elder Rohrbach from Ohio.
