jiggety-jig! Although I am not sure if going to an hotel in Davis County counts as "home again." Regardless, we got up at 4:00 am to head back to Utah. We made an earlier than normal start to avoid some predicted snow storms in Idaho and Utah and actually had clear roads and no storms until nightfall just as we were entering Utah.
So good news on the storm and clear roads...HOWEVER--
we can't forget the beeping. It started about 2 hours into our trip (around 6:30 am) and was supposing signaling a problem in the car. It started beeping once a minute or so and flashed some warning lights, and then began beeping almost constantly and flashing more and more warnings. We checked the owners manual and decided it was save to drive and decided to stop at a Hyundai Dealership in Kennewick, Washington. When we got there at 8:30 am, they told us that they couldn't even look at the car until 3-5 hours from now and suggested that we stop in Boise instead. That was five hours away, but it seemed better to be driving instead of just sitting in Kennewick, especially because of our concerns about weather. Off we went. We played our music VERY loud to try to drown out the beeping, but it was especially annoying if you were trying to sleep. We made jokes about it, complained, and just gritted our teeth.
I reached into my pocket and discovered the shells that Ava had given me to "save" for her. I guess they are coming with me on our mission now. |
As we approached Boise, we tried to call and get an appointment to be checked to discover they couldn't even make an appointment with us until April 6. That wasn't going to work so we checked for the next place which was Twin Falls. Meanwhile we were trying to call our dealership in Salt Lake to see if there was a way to TURN OFF the beeping. We were put on hold so many times...it was not pleasant! Finally on the fourth or fifth call when I indicated that we had been on hold a number of times already, we were given a direct line to someone--who told us we couldn't turn off the warning beeps because they were safety warnings, but they would be happy to get us in at their service center on Thursday to check things out. We were able to stop in Twin Falls and they checked the car out and said that while it was safe to drive, they thought the camera/radar was out and needed to be replaced. They could order one and fix it by Friday or Saturday....that wasn't going to work so off we went with beeping continuing.
entering Utah |
It was about 6 pm by now.....
then for some reason about 30 minutes out of Twin Falls, the beeping stopped and didn't reoccur the rest of the way home nor the next day when we took it down to the repair shop in Salt Lake. We still aren't sure why it stopped but we were happy travelers when it did...just in time for the snow to start flying as we entered Utah......21 days and 5000 miles later, we were home from our between-mission road trip! It was great and better than we could have hoped for. We saw a lot of family and some beautiful scenery and we got to go to some beaches--life is good!
