It was with a heavy heart that Gary was released from Webelos last year and called to serve in the Elders Quorum Presidency in our ward. Not only because he loved it and change is hard, but because of the upcoming separation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the Boy Scouts of America in December of 2019, he knew that it was probable that he would never serve in Cub Scouts again.
So when the current Cub Master was unable to be at Pack Meeting this month and none of the regular back-ups were available, Gary was happy to be asked to pitch it. They had the usual awards and then they built paper airplanes and fly them around the Cultural Hall to make a landing on the airstrip (usually known as pinewood derby track.) Paper airplanes were a favorite pack meeting we did in Plano, so I was knew they would have a great time. I wasn't there, but Gary said it was great....and Gary had fun, too. A win-win!
I took a picture of his supplies--a sack with the awards not given, a flag, paperclips, and a ream of paper--to contrast with the piles of stuff I usually have after events. I need to learn to plan more like Gary does.
So glad to have shared scouts with Scott and Ben, but feel good about the impending changes ahead for the young boys and young men in the Church. We need different preparation for the future of the world and of the Church.
