The First Annual Walnut Grove Neighborhood Little Library Summer Reading Program Popsicles and Prizes Party

That's a mouthful for a title, but it happened on Monday night, August 20.  We had some families from the neighborhood join us and we had a nice gathering and sharing our love of books and popsicles.  We had prizes for those who had read the books and prizes for those who came.

We have such fun neighbors who love our library as much as we do...and they seem to like the neighbors and popsicles as well.  Go, read a book!!!

A Nod to the Giberson Game Creating....

I had to teach the Primary lesson on David and Bathsheba to five 10-year old boys and one girl!  The objective of the lesson was to control your thoughts so that your actions will be pure as well.  So, I made a game--(those science fair tri-fold boards are useful for something!)

Pure Thoughts!

There were four stacks of cards-- What do you do?  situations where you need to make a choice; ?  questions about the Bible story; Read   Read a quote or saying about having pure thoughts or things you can do to prevent bad thoughts; and Temptation Solutions  where you have to identify things to prevent temptations in your thoughts and actions.  They actually did a very good job with remembering the story and thinking about things they could do to resist temptations.  These are some smart kids!!!  I am hoping I can reuse it for another lesson by changing out the cards.  We will see if that ever happens.

An ordinary Saturday

Jena started reminding us that it was time to do some clothes shopping at the beginning of August, but it wasn't until the 18th that we got around to starting it.  She got some shirts at Dress Barn, we made a stop at Deseret Book for some important items.....

But what got the biggest smile was a certain white dress which she picked out at White Elegance.  That is the big news of the month--Jena is going to take out her own endowments on September 15, 2018, in the Ogden LDS Temple.  We had checked for dresses a couple of places, but she decided that this was the one!

We then headed to Center Pointe Theatre to usher (and then stayed to see) Pirates of Penance.  That was a fun show.

We then headed to Jessica's to help with some home project in getting ready for the twins' arrival.  It was a busy and productive day and we were very tired by the time we got home about 11:00 pm.  Saturdays can be like that, but it is a good feeling to get things done and have fun together.

Glad Sundays follow Saturdays...it is nice to have that complete change of pace before a new work week starts.

Ordinary Simple Pleasures of Life

 And we jumped back into the swing of things right away.  Jena and Kaitlyn hung out at the UDSF Annual Summer Pool party in Roy for Davis and Weber Counties.  It was great to visit with some many families which we only see a couple of times a year.

These cute things arrived in the mail.  For some reason, having twins seems like an extra special thing so I can do some extra things....so these are swaddles with the names which have been chosen for the twins--Carter Ann and Alex Rae.  (Side note:  We had to reorder Alex's hat as the purple was off from the purples in the swaddle.)  Expect to see some photos with babies in these hats and swaddled in these named swaddles in a month or so.

Saturday, August 11 was a special day because we took Scarlett to her first production at the Hale Theatre.  In the Jewel box theatre, they did a special showing of Pinocchio for children ages three and up.  We got tickets for her birthday and Gary, Jena and I got to join her at the show.  She loved the costumes, music and dancing, although she wanted to know why the kids on stage did not wave at her when she waved at them. (Jena and I had ushered right before at the Center Pointe Theatre in Centerville, which is why we have matching white shirts and black skirt/pants.)

Dinner at Wendy's afterwards...it was fun.  I hope to take her and the other grandkids to the theatre from time to time.  I am sure that some will love it and others will not, which is fine.  One of the joys of children is to introduce them to the variety of experiences in life and let them decide what makes them happy...but they truly, hopefully, will all love the beach and the ocean!!!

I loved spending time with just Scarlett and then an hour or so, hanging out with James and Scarlett playing outside in their neighborhood while Gary and Scott talked.
